Case study · RIoT Insight

Mobile store inventory manager

RIoT Insight's RiotRetail app runs on handheld RFID scanners in stores. We redesigned it so store teams can count stock, print tags and replenish shelves faster from the shop floor.

RiotRetail inventory screen on a Zebra RFID handheld

The brief

RIoT Insight is a US retail technology company. Its RiotRetail app lets store staff use an RFID handheld to count every item on the sales floor, print tags for incoming shipments and see what needs replenishing. The second phase of the product called for a full reskin: clearer screens that staff can read at a glance on a small handheld device.

What we did

  • Redesigned the inventory count, ASN print, scan-and-print and replenishment flows.
  • Put live progress front and centre: items counted against expected stock, entries and tags printed.
  • Designed a new animated splash screen, app icon and logos.
  • Tested internal builds on device and fed issues back to the client's engineering team.
  • Followed up with item lookup and department selection screens in late 2020.

The outcome

The redesigned screens shipped into RiotRetail's Phase 2 builds, and the client came back to us for further UI changes as the product grew.

“Thank you, we love this. Exactly what I asked for.”
